Microsoft released the new Windows 10 Preview Build 17650 for users enrolled in the Skip Ahead subset of the Fast ring.

The new build, which falls under the Redstone 5 branch, brings a host of improvements to Windows Defender Security Center (WDSC) and Windows Defender Firewall.

Windows 10 Insiders who opted for the Skip Ahead ring can download the new build by Check for Updates under the Settings panel. Here are some of the improvements that come with the new update.

Windows Defender Security Center Improvements

After taking in feedback from users, Microsoft has added a series of Fluent Design elements to the WDSC. After installing the new build, users will find an updated version of the application with improvements in the design.

Microsoft has also made changes to the spacing and padding around the application, and the categories on the main page are resized automatically if more space is required to accommodate additional information.

Lastly, Microsoft has revamped the title bar of the app to display the accent color chosen by users, provided that they have the option enabled in Color Settings. This also requires the Microsoft Sets feature to be enabled.

Microsoft also fixed an issue with the WDSC app where the elements would resize automatically when the mouse cursor hovered over them.

Windows Defender Firewall Improvements

Microsoft has now added support for Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) processes, allowing users to create firewall rules that target specific WSL processes like they could with Windows processes.

Moreover, the updated Windows Defender Firewall also supports notifications for WSL processes. For instance, when a Linux tool wants to allow access to an outside port, the Windows Defender Firewall will display a pop-up notification prompting the user to authorize access just like it would for a Windows process when the port starts accepting other connections.

Other Bug Fixes And Improvements

Some of the other improvements the new build has added include fixing an issue where File Explorer would open the window with the ribbon minimized instead of keeping in mind how the users have left it.

Microsoft also rectified a problem where when users click on a link in Settings to launch other apps, the Settings tab would crash without the action being completed.

Among other bug fixes, another issue that was resolved was one where the Color Filters and High Contrast icons got switched in the Settings tab.
